New COVID-19 Testing Site, April 7th
April 6, 2020
Fauquier Health and the other members of the Coronavirus Community Task Force, are partnering together to provide the community with curbside COVID-19 testing at Piedmont Urgent Care. The partners, in no particular order, include Fauquier County, Town of Warrenton, Piedmont Urgent Care, Piedmont Pediatrics, PATH Foundation, Fauquier Free Clinic, Fauquier Health, Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates and the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District. Through this collaborative effort it is our hopes that we can offer a convenient testing location to the residents of Fauquier County that are deemed in need of testing from their primary care physician. It is important to note, this new location is not a screening location upon request. This location is purely a testing location based on the primary care provider’s order for a patient to receive the test.
In a video posted by Dr. Steve von Elten, of Piedmont Family Practice, “The screening is intended for symptomatic patients that have been prescreened by their medical provider.” To view the video in its entirety, please visit this link.
The process below quickly outlines the required steps of this testing site:
- A patient experiencing potential COVID related symptoms should call their primary care physician to be prescreened to see if they fit the testing criteria.
- If a patient fits the testing criteria, the primary care physician will schedule an appointment for the patient for curbside testing at the Piedmont Urgent Care testing location.
- The patient should arrive to their appointment on time. A number will be provided to the patient allowing them to notify staff of their arrival. (If the patient does not call ahead, there is a phone number posted on the front door they can call and be granted access to be evaluated and screened.)
- A nurse will come out to obtain the order and information.
- The nurse will give the test to the patient from their vehicle.
- The primary care physician will receive and interpret the results once they are conclusive (this can take anywhere from 2-10 days). Those results will be communicated to the patient along with any other pertinent information.
