Arij Azhar, MD

Dr. Azhar began his residency at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn New York in 2018 and became Chief Resident in 2021. He then went on to complete his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care in Brooklyn.  “It was a unique time, and we were at the epicenter of the pandemic. 90% of our patients were very critically ill,” he recalls. It was here that he developed a passion for critical care but also realized that he wanted to be able to focus on caring not only for patients, but to have time for their families as well.

His wife is originally from Northern Virginia, so a move here brought them closer to family  and gave them the benefit of being close to all the activities available in a city, but “without the hectic pace and traffic, and easy access to parks and nature as well” says Dr. Azhar. “It really is the best of both worlds – and a great fit for our family!”

“What I love about Fauquier Health is how we can maximize our resources for the patient but also be there for families. As an Intensivists, we are the SEAL team; we respond to situations where a patient’s condition can change from minute to minute. At the same time, being here allows me to spend time with families, guiding them on a journey that is probably not familiar to them.”

Fauquier Hospital is unique in that it is a community hospital but still has critical care intensivist coverage 24/7 to make sure that ICU patients have access to the expertise they need when faced with very serious health conditions. “Our ICU provides the services our community needs, which means patients and families are very happy with the care they receive here.” Often, that care comes at one of the most difficult times a family can face. Dr. Azhar finds it a privilege to be with patients and their loved ones during such a challenging time. “At Fauquier Health, our patients receive quality care from our whole team.
