Fauquier Health has earned Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

The certification, offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, focuses on the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon.

“Fauquier Health is committed to excellence in patient care and quality,” says Toni Maxwell, APRN, FNP-BC, Chief Nursing Officer, Fauquier Health. “Our Orthopedic Services offer some of the best care and latest technology found anywhere, and I am proud of the hard work done by physicians, clinical and ancillary staff on behalf of our patients.”

In addition to this Joint Commission recognition, Fauquier Health has earned a Blue Distinction® Center+ designation for excellence in knee and hip replacement surgery, given as recognition for providing quality care, treatment expertise and better overall patient outcomes. Fauquier Health recently deployed new robotic technology for knee replacement.

Fauquier Health underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review, during which a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with the related certification standards, including program management and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewer also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DDNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, Joint Commission. “We commend Fauquier Health for using Joint Commission’s certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safter, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”
