MRI
MRI scanners utilize a magnetic field and radio waves, similar to those of the AM/FM radio, to create extremely detailed 2-D or 3-D images of the body's internal structures. X-rays are not used in this non-invasive imaging service (no radiation). MRIs can be used to diagnose shoulder and knee abnormalities, herniated discs, stroke, multiple sclerosis, tumors and more. This painless procedure offers the physician extensive diagnostic information and can aid in early diagnosis of problems, reducing or eliminating the need for more invasive procedures, such as exploratory surgery or biopsy.

Open MRI
Fauquier Hospital offers a state-of-the-art open MRI scanner which provides an entirely different scanning experience compared to a traditional MRI. The scanner is specifically designed to meet the needs of larger or claustrophobic patients. Parents also prefer the open-design scanner, as it allows them to remain next to their child throughout the scan.
The equipment offers an ultra-fast workstation to make patient exams as quick and smooth as possible. The new technology also allows for anatomically specific advanced imaging for orthopedic, neurological, vascular and abdomen/pelvis scans.
The large opening allows for maximum space for the patient. And with the short front to back magnet width, most of the exam is done with the patient's head clear of the magnet area. This high-quality scan is fast and accurate. It includes imaging stabilizing software to further improve image quality.
The medical imaging department also offers a conventional MRI scanner, which can accommodate most patients. Our highly trained and experienced MRI team are committed to helping our patients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout their scan. They will do whatever is necessary to ensure a high-quality, successful scan experience!
