Cardiopulmonary & Vascular Testing
Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Services at Fauquier Hospital offers an array of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for both inpatient and outpatient clients with cardiac, neurological, vascular and respiratory conditions. This department consists of five specialty areas that are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies.
Cardiac Services
Cardiac Services offers many cardiac diagnostics, including:
- Diagnostic and interventional (balloon angioplasty and stents) catheterization
- Permanent Pacemaker insertion
- EKG’s and Holter monitoring for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations with cardiac symptoms or conditions
- Cardiac stress testing, treadmill, pharmacological, nuclear, stress echocardiograms for adolescent, adult and geriatric clients. Fauquier Hospital recently acquired a cardiac bike, which can measure heart function in real time. It is ideal for those patients who would have trouble navigating a treadmill.
- Thirty-day cardiac event monitoring and tilt-table testing for diagnosing neurocardiogenic syncope for clients aged 16 years and older.
- Fauquier Hospital recently added Bicycle Ergometer Stress Testing.
ECHO
ECHO (Noninvasive Cardiology) offers cardiac diagnostic studies such as echocardiograms, bubble studies, TEE (transeosophogeal echocardiograms), echocardiograms with enhancing agent (Definity) in the event of suboptimal images. Pediatric echocardiograms are also offered. Cardiac services and ECHO partner for the stress echocardiograms or dobutamine stress echocardiograms. All the studies performed in this area aid cardiologists in diagnosing cardiac problems or conditions.
Neurophysiology
Neurophysiology offers EEG, and sleep-deprived EEG. As an additional specialty, the area works with ENT physicians for needle-guided Botox injections using the EMG equipment for vocal cord, turbinate reduction, tonsil cryptolysis and posterior tongue tie release.
Electromyography (EMG) is an electrodiagnostic medicine technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles. EMG is performed using an instrument called an electromyograph to produce a record called an electromyogram. For diagnostic EMG, please refer to your neurologist’s office. For questions contact 540.316.2606.
Peripheal Vascular
Peripheal Vascular offers venous duplex, carotid doppler and arterial studies for the adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with vascular problems or conditions.
We also offer vascular screening, used to detect the presence of mild-to-severe disease. There are three screenings, carotid artery plague for stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm screening and peripheral vascular disease screening ankle-brachial index screening.
Anyone wishing to arrange a screening may call 316-5800 to schedule. No physician order is necessary and the screenings are self-pay only. After a physician interprets the tests, the results are mailed to the client. The client can then take the results to their physician.
Respiratory
Fauquier Hospital's Respiratory department offers both therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and testing to patients with breathing problems. The therapeutic procedures include all aspects of bronchodilator therapy, oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation on patients of all ages, with respiratory problems or conditions. The diagnostic procedures in this area are complete pulmonary function testing with body plethysmography, cardiopulmonary stress testing, arterial blood gases, home oxygen assessments, methacholine challenge studies, and heliobacter pylori breath testing.
FeNO, a test to diagnose asthma, can evaluate a chronic cough, or see how well your medications are treating your asthma. Comparing FeNO results over several visits can be an effective way to make sure you’re getting the right medications in the right amounts to keep you breathing. A respiratory therapist will guide the patient through the FeNO test in our pulmonary function laboratory. All diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed with state-of-the-art equipment.
