Ultimately, you are in the driver's seat when it comes to controlling your diabetes, but our diabetes services are designed to help you on that journey. Fauquier Health offers a comprehensive approach to diabetes treatment.
Fauquier Health’s Diabetes Self-Management Education/Training program teaches you everything you need to know to better manage your diabetes. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, our program meets rigorous standards for diabetes education. The program includes an initial hour-long assessment, nine hours of classes in a group setting, and three hours of “medical nutrition therapy” (meeting with a registered dietitian to fine-tune your diet).
Medicare will also cover Followup Diabetes Self-Management Education if you’ve already completed the initial ten-hour DSMT program and allows two appointments per year. At the completion of the initial DSMT, you’ll receive a one-month free membership to the Wellness Center.
The course requires a doctor’s referral. We accept Medicare and most insurance plans.
When you’re expecting, you have enough on your mind, and getting the diagnosis of “gestational diabetes” can add some stress and anxiety. With a doctor’s referral, you can make an appointment with the Wellness Center’s Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist(RDN) and diabetes educator to receive a free glucometer, learn how to check your own blood sugars, and develop a meal plan to keep your blood sugars in better control before baby’s arrival.
Check with your insurance plan to see if it's covered.
This FREE group is for anyone with diabetes, as well as anyone who supports or cares for a person with diabetes.
You will learn diabetes management skills from our occasional guest speakers, who will also answer your questions. It’s always helpful to hear from other people with diabetes about what they find helpful in day-to-day management of their blood sugars. The group meets quarterly, on Tuesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the Wellness Center.
