Registered Dietitian at Fauquier Health Wellness Center achieves Certified Diabetes Educator® status

November 21, 2018

(WARRENTON, VIRGINIA, November 21, 2019)   The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Mary (“Beth”) Potter, MS, RD, of the Fauquier Health Wellness Center, achieved Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators.   Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the Examination.  Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes.  Currently, there are over 19,500 diabetes educators who hold the NCBDE certification of CDE®.

NCBDE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for health professionals who teach individuals with diabetes how to self-manage their disease.  It is a national not-for-profit certification organization that is responsible for overseeing the certification program for diabetes educators and awarding the CDE® credential to qualified individuals.

Beth Potter has been a Registered Dietitian (RD) for almost thirty years and a member of the Fauquier Health team since 1997.

For the past three years, she has provided outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients with different diagnoses, helping to improve their health and manage their chronic diseases.  During this time, she has also served as Fauquier Health’s diabetes educator, teaching individuals and groups about the many aspects of self-management care and achieving better blood sugar control. Beth’s CDE® status is a testament to her dedication to patients and her commitment to serving community needs.

Fauquier Health’s Diabetes Self-Management Education, Training and Support Program offers counseling appointments for diabetic patients of all kinds, including the newly-diagnosed and those needing diet and lifestyle changes to better control their blood sugars. The program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for providing quality education that meets all national standards for diabetes self-management.
