As a general surgeon, Dr. Cynthia Dougherty specializes in providing comprehensive surgical services, which includes everything from laparoscopic gallbladder surgery to dialysis access surgery. She also specializes in providing compassionate evaluation and treatment for benign and malignant breast disease, with an emphasis on providing superior cosmetic results. Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Dougherty understands the level of apprehension many patients face when contemplating surgery, and does everything she can to put her patients at ease. That includes sitting down with each patient and family to: discuss the options; explain the surgical procedures and recovery processes; listen to concerns; and reassure the patient and family that her main objective is always to provide safe, effective and competent care.
Education and Training
After earning her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toledo/Medical College of Ohio in 1992, Dr. Dougherty completed the Medical College of Ohio Internship and Surgery Residency Program, where she also served as Chief Resident. Prior to medical school, Dr. Dougherty earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology and microbiology from Miami University, and a master’s degree in medical technology from the University of Cincinnati.
Honors and Awards
Among her many honors, Dr. Cynthia Dougherty is currently a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the Fauquier Medical Society.
Dr. Dougherty joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Northern Virginia Surgical Specialists (Drs. Farr, Wampler, Henson & Williams, Ltd.) in 1997, right after she completed her residency program.
Dr. Cynthia Dougherty is married and has two children. In her spare time, she enjoys horses, antiques, auctions and painting.
