Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Michael Jenks worked in a variety of subspecialty fields before deciding on emergency medicine, including being an emergency medical technician for a rescue squad, and a medical technician for hospitals in the departments of pharmacy, laboratory, outpatient surgery, telemetry and emergency medicine. This work experience not only provided a foundation for his emergency medicine career, it also helped confirm his passion for the field. Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Jenks is a calm, congenial and compassionate physician who is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for our patients and their families.
Education and Training
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in 2002, Dr. Jenks completed the Baystate Medical Center Emergency Medicine Internship and Residency Program.
Certifications and Proficiencies
Dr. Jenks is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced trauma life support.
Honors and Awards
Among his many honors, Dr. Jenks was named the Student of the Year by the Department of Medicine at MCV, and was the regional winner in the resident presenter category at the 2004 Clinical Pathologic Conference held by the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. In addition, Dr. Jenks is currently is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Michael Jenks conducted research for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale University on internet resources for emergency physicians in the event of a terrorist attack with biological release.
Dr. Jenks joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates in 2005, right after he completed his residency program. He is the current chairman of the Fauquier Health Emergency Department. Prior to medical school, he was a volunteer EMT and a medical technician for various hospitals in Northern Virginia and Richmond. He currently volunteers his time at the Fauquier Free Clinic.
Dr. Michael Jenks is married and has two children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, running and playing guitar.
