Matthew Rhames, MD
Emergency Medicine

If there’s one thing Dr. Matthew Rhames enjoys, it’s working with patients in the community hospital setting. Having served as the emergency department director for Tazewell Community Hospital and Raleigh General Hospital, he knows what ER patients need. He also knows which skills are the most important for ER physicians. Board certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Rhames has discovered that the winning combination for an ER physician includes a quick mind, nerves of steel, top-notch clinical skills, and the ability to establish an instant rapport with families while they are under stressful situations.

Education and Training
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1998, Dr. Rhames completed the Geisinger Medical Center Emergency Medicine Internship and Residency Program.

Certifications and Proficiencies
Dr. Matthew Rhames is certified as an instructor for advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and advanced trauma life support.

Dr. Rhames joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Virginia Emergency Medicine Associates in 2005. Prior to that, he was an emergency medicine physician for hospitals in Marina del Ray, California, and Galax, Virginia. He also was the emergency department director for Phy-America in Tazewell, Virginia, and Health Care Alliance in Beckley, West Virginia. Dr. Matthew Rhames is currently the vice-chairman of the Fauquier Hospital Emergency Department.
