James Koepke, MD

Radiology is a constantly changing field of medicine that can improve the quality of care a health system provides. As a former chairman of our Medical Imaging Department, Dr. James Koepke was instrumental in guiding our health system through several major improvements, including the addition of new state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanners, computer-aided design (CAD) technology for mammography services, an archiving system for digital radiological images, a new ultrasound suite and expanded imaging hours. Board certified in diagnostic radiology, Dr. Koepke understands that a physician’s success is not measured by accolades and material gains; it’s measured by the impact the physician has on the health of the patients and community.

Education and Training
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1991, Dr. Koepke completed the Maine Medical Center Internal Medicine Internship Program and the Radiology Residency Program. Following, he completed the University of Vermont College of Medicine Body Imaging Fellowship Program.

Honors and Awards
Among his many academic honors, Dr. Koepke graduated cum laude from the undergraduate chemistry program at Duke University. He also made the Dean’s List, and was inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and the Phi Lambda Upsilon National Honorary Chemistry Society. He is currently a member of the American College of Radiology, American Medical Association, Radiological Society of North America and the American Roentgen Ray Society.

During medical school, Dr. James Koepke was a research associate for the Department of Radiology at Duke University. He also conducted research on a variety of medical and radiology topics, and his findings were published in LabMedica, Clinical and Laboratory Hematology and Medical Imaging International.

Dr. Koepke joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Virginia Radiology Associates in 1997, right after he completed his fellowship program. Over the years, Dr. Koepke has served in numerous leadership positions, including chairman of the Fauquier Hospital Medical Imaging Department, radiation safety officer, member of the Fauquier Health Foundation Board of Directors and president of the Fauquier County Medical Society.
