As a primary care physician, Dr. McCarthy is concerned about the skyrocketing diabetes epidemic in our local community. That’s why he spends extra time counseling his diabetic patients and volunteering his free time to help run a monthly diabetes education class for the Fauquier Free Clinic. In addition to providing diabetes expertise, Dr. McCarthy also specializes in weight management, asthma, emphysema and all other primary care areas. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. McCarthy understands the importance of educating and empowering his patients. He believes that when patients fully understand their own health care challenges, they can do a much better job of managing their own diseases and improving their overall health.
Education and Training
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1992, Dr. McCarthy completed the University of Massachusetts Medical Center Internal Medicine Internship and Residency Program. Prior to medical school, Dr. McCarthy earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in physiology from Georgetown University.

Dr. McCarthy is a member of the Fauquier County Medical Society.
Employment
Dr. McCarthy joined Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Piedmont Internal Medicine in 1995, right after he completed his residency program. He currently is a staff physician for the Fauquier Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, and is a former medical director of the Fauquier Free Clinic. He also partners with two other Fauquier Health physicians to run the Fauquier Free Clinic’s diabetes education program.

Dr. McCarthy is married and has three children.
