As a family practice physician, Dr. Minera treats a lot of patients with sports injuries. And as an athlete himself—Dr. Minera competes in Ironman Triathlons—he has a keen interest in sports medicine. Some of his specialty areas include joint aspirations, joint injections, splinting, bracing and suturing. Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Minera also specializes in other areas of primary care, including women’s health, disease prevention, health promotion and patient education. For Dr. Minera, the education component is always the most important part of the doctor-patient relationship, because knowledge enables patients to become active partners in their own care.
Education and Training
After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from Guatemala’s Universidad de San Carlos in 1998, Dr. Minera completed the Family Practice Internship and Residency Program at Warren Hospital Family Practice in New Jersey, where he also served as Chief Resident.
Certifications and Proficiencies
Dr. Minera is certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, neonatal resuscitation and advanced life support in obstetrics. He is also an instructor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Provider program and the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics program. In addition, Dr. Minera is fluent in Spanish.
Honors and Awards
Among his many honors, Dr. Minera was named Faculty of the Year at Warren Hospital Family Practice. Dr. Minera is currently a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, American Medical Association and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He also is a fellow of the Critical Care Society.
Dr. Minera has conducted research on drug induced systemic lupus erythematosus and weight management.
Prior to joining Fauquier Health as a private practice physician with Piedmont Family Practice in 2008, Dr. Minera was the associate director and research coordinator for the Coventry Family Practice Residency Program, and a staff physician at Warren Hospital Family Practice in New Jersey, where he held numerous committee leadership positions. Dr. Minera is currently the medical director for our Wound Healing Center.
Dr. Minera is married and has one child. In his spare time, he enjoys running, biking and swimming. Dr. Minera has competed in multiple Ironman Triathlon and Half Ironman Triathlon races.
